Strengthening Families Program

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) has been helping families since the mid-1980s. A group of 8-10 families meets for 14 sessions (usually weekly), for 90 minutes at a time. During that time, the families are provided a meal to eat together, and then the kids and adults go into separate groups. During these breakout sessions, adults and kids work on corresponding topics, such as communication skills, how to handle conflict, and how to have more bonding in their family. Afterward, kids and adults come back together into the same session to practice some of the things they’ve learned. They also have fun exercises to practice together during the week.

This program will help both kids and parents/caregivers reduce stress, by increasing their bonding, developing healthy and effective discipline, learning how to solve problems, and improving communication as a family.

Other benefits for families:

  • Free family dinner at each session

  • Free gifts and prizes

  • Free child care

  • Assistance with transportation as needed

Families need to have at least one child aged 6-11 (but all are welcome!), and plan to attend all 14 sessions to participate. Families who finish the program receive a completion gift, and are honored in a graduation ceremony.
