In conjunction with a newly-released Theological Statement regarding Race and Anti-Discrimination, OCC is thrilled to launch “No Hate in the Heartland” in 2021. Rev. Fleck says the new statement is a great way to start this campaign, which will offer digital content surrounding the work to prevent hate in Oklahoma. She hopes to help Oklahomans engage with one another as “people of faith to be a movement based in morality for the absolute love of neighbor.”
The statement begins, “We believe the way we treat people is an issue of faith. We recognize that the Bible outlines explicit ways we are to treat one another, and that there is no room in our faith tradition for casting people aside into any margin of society. We believe that people are and should be treated equally, as we are all the beloved children of God. We believe fervently that racism is a sin, and outside the bounds of God’s call.”
